Description:

Please join the Graduate Commune as they host their next milestone panel where fellow grad students will discuss the prospectus and dissertation!

The Milestone Panel on the Prospectus and Starting the Dissertation is a professional development event presented by the Commune that will cover all aspects of writing and defending the prospectus and transitioning into dissertation work. With four panelists across the four subfields, we plan to discuss how to decide on a topic, what to expect from your advisor, what a prospectus is, how to form your committee, and how to proceed after you have defended, among many other topics. Beginning to think about the prospectus and shift into dissertation work after you have finished your required courses and taken your comprehensive exams is one of the biggest challenges of the third and fourth year and it marks a major change in your day-to-day life during your time in grad school that can often be daunting and feel high-stakes. In response to popular demand, the Commune is excited to create a space for grad students to hear from a panel of experienced ABDs who study a range of topics and use a variety of methods. A moderated discussion will be followed by an open question-and-answer period, and lunch will be served.

The panelists will be Charlotte Mencke (Political Theory), Andrew Saab (Comparative Politics), Nicolette Alayon (American Politics), and Shah Zeb Chaudhary (International Relations).
