Description:

The Buffett Institute for Global Affairs hosts a variety of opportunities for graduate students to present their research to globally engaged faculty and peers. Join us in March for a screening and discussion of the film "Ignited," executively produced by Anthropology PhD candidate Sofyan Ansori. Q&A and discussion will follow; light refreshments will be served.

"Ignited" is an animated short film that debuted at Jakarta Film Week in October 2024. Informed by the filmmakers' ethnographic findings during the 2023 conflagrations in Central Kalimantan, the film illustrates fire experiences from the perspectives of mothers and wives. Through heartfelt outpourings, friendly banters, and sarcastic jokes in their domestic spaces, this slice-of-life animation illuminates the everyday struggle of Indigenous communities in spearheading fire mitigation at the village level.

"Ignited" is part of a bigger project, "Fire Play: Understanding and Documenting Indigenous Fire Governance in Indonesia." Through multimedia productions, the filmmakers try to mainstream climate communication, presenting the everyday reality of environmental injustices to broader audiences.

Please note that 720 University Place is not an ADA-accessible space. Increasing physical access to buildings and facilities is a goal of the University, but not all buildings and venues have been updated.
