New Economic Perspectives on Collective Bargaining

Despite a declining trend in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in coverage and especially union membership, a large share of formal workers around the world is still covered by collective bargaining agreements. In this talk, Sebastián will address the recent literature on the economic effects of different schemes of collective bargaining around the (mainly Western) world and discuss its particular importance as a tool to counteract increasing market power in the labor market. Determining when collective bargaining can counteract labor market power (and to what extent) is a core element of his dissertation research.
