The Political Science department will host Kat Abughazaleh, candidate for IL-09, for a conversation on getting involved with local politics, launching political careers, and current political affairs in the greater Chicagoland area. Catered reception to follow.

Kat Abughazaleh is an American journalist, social media influencer, and political commentator, running for election to the U.S. House to represent Illinois' 9th Congressional District. Abughazaleh graduated from George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs in 2020 with a BA in International Affairs, concentrating on Security Policy. Before launching her campaign, Abughazaleh was a senior video producer for Media Matters for America.While at Media Matters, Abughazaleh served as SEIU Local 500 union representative. Abughazaleh's writing has been published by Mother Jones and The New Republic.

Jaime Dominguez is Associate Professor of Instruction in Political Science at Northwestern University and the principal architect of the Chicago Democracy Project (CDP), a thirty-year (1975-2005) online political database that measures policy outcomes for the City of Chicago. Professor Dominguez's teaching and research interests center on race, ethnic, immigration and Latino politics. He is also a frequent commentator for local and major news outlets including NPR, PBS, Univision and Telemundo.
