Artur Baranov is a PhD Student at the Department of Political Science, Northwestern University. His field is Comparative Politics, with a focus on Comparative Authoritarianism. In his research, Baranov studies how authoritarian states evolve – how they adapt to challenges, maintain control, and transform their institutions. To study such closed political systems, Baranov relies extensively on quantitative text analysis techniques. Prior to joining Northwestern, Baranov studied Political Science at University College Dublin in Ireland, Tor Vergata University of Rome in Italy, and the Higher School of Economics in Russia. Previously, he worked at the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation as a transparency auditor.
