Join Rana Khoury, Department of Political Science Alumna and Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, to discuss the academic market, publishing with a university press, conducting fieldwork in MENA, doing qualitative research in mainstream political science. Khoury recently published a book, Civilizing Contention, where she traces the afterlife of a social movement in the depths of a brutal war. Khoury shows how international humanitarians who come to help—and who rely on civil actors to do so—reshape activism itself. Coffee, tea, and pastries will be served.
