After the lunchtime Buffett Conversation on Violence, Politics, and the Press in Mexico on Monday, April 27, the Roberta Buffett Institute and Medill School invite undergraduate students to join us for an afternoon tea with the journalists visiting campus to share insights from their decades of experiences reporting in Mexico and beyond as well as their expertise on journalist safety:
Javier Garza, a Mexican journalist who co-hosts El Noti, one of the most popular news podcasts in the country, and runs Horizonte Lagunero, a local news platform on radio and social media
Judith Matloff, an American journalist who teaches crisis reporting at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and is the author of No Friends but the Mountains: Dispatches from the World's Violent Highlands
Hosted in roundtable format in the Buffett Reading Room, the session invites undergraduates to ask questions about these renowned journalists' career paths, hear behind-the-scenes stories, and explore the challenges of reporting in high-risk environments.
Open to all Northwestern University undergraduates. Light refreshments will be served.
