HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARSHA! - 2018 | 15 min - A film by Tourmaline and Sasha Wortzel

Happy Birthday, Marsha! imagines transgender rights activist and performer Marsha "Pay It No Mind" Johnson in the hours before the 1969 Stonewall Riots. The film stars Independent Spirit Award Winner Mya Taylor as Marsha.

In honor of the Women's Center's 40th anniversary and theme, Legacies of Living Free, we have invited the Chicago Collage Community to guide us in making art inspired by the film and life of Marsha P. Johnson, the themes of queer activism, trans experience, and the legacies of living free.

The Chicago Collage Community strives to connect and uplift the diverse array of talented collage artists in the greater Chicagoland area. It is their intention to be an inclusive, nurturing, and safe space while ensuring Chicago is in the ongoing conversations being had about collage art and artists throughout the world. They do this by building a vibrant, connected community.
