Glories of the German Baroque
Stephen Alltop, conductor
The Millar Choir presents two outstanding works for voices and strings from the early German Baroque: Dieterich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostri and Franz Tunder’s Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott. Buxtehude’s masterwork is comprised of seven short cantatas, each focusing a different part of Christ’s body on the cross. Tunder’s setting of the hymn “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God” captures the majesty and power of this stalwart Lutheran music.
